‘Birth of Hope’ sculpture installed at Fayette County Detention Center
Installers work on placing a new sculpture, “The Birth of Hope,” on the front lawn of the Fayette County Detention Center, Friday, Dec. 13, 2024 in Lexington, Ky. The sculpture, created by Louisville artist and UK graduate Dave Caudill, is a tribute to the spirit of the public servants who work at the facility, Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said. The sculpture is located in the Old Frankfort Pike corridor, which serves the detention center, local businesses and tourists who travel down Old Frankfort Pike, a National Scenic Byway. Local sculptor creating dynamic public art in Kentucky
Louisville-based artist Dave Caudill has created the first commissioned piece from Lexington’s Percent for Art Program, established to support the creation of new works of art accessible to the public at no charge. Caudill was chosen from a selection committee of detention center employees, public art commission members and Lexington artists.
